According to the latest BBC News report, the Spanish government will take control of all the finances associated with the independent region of Catalonia. This will happen within 48 hours in case they don’t halt the ‘unlawful’ referendum vote concerning independence.
The liberty-touting founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, hastily tweeted his backing of the referendum. In addition, he also commented on how important the use of Bitcoin is to the states and freedom loving people.
The WikiLeaks’ Support
Why was the vote proposed? The main reason was based on the argument that the affluent region was giving out far more money to the central government compared what it was receiving in terms of public services.
The government of Spain has warned that it can take control, at any time, of all the financial transactions so as to halt the use of state resources on illegal acts. Cristobal Montoro, who is the Spain’s finance minister, categorically stated that:
‘These measures will ensure that not even a single euro will be used to finance the illegal acts’
Compensating for Independence
The beauty of Bitcoin is all about being immune to the geopolitical upheaval. It enjoys such a freedom because it is not controlled by the government and can work seamlessly well without needing centralized government systems.
According to many industry insiders, the Bitcoin value-stability principle has made it be so important in such a case. The insiders have gone a step further and called the virtual currency “digital gold”.
Julian Assange’s post is of the opinion that Bitcoin is the currency of choice for all those people yearning for the freedom of finance, removal of government restrictive practices and strong-arming. Thus, citizens should strongly support the use of Bitcoin as well as other virtual currencies.
As the popularity of Bitcoin continues to increase, so does its use-cases and liquidity. As a result, the cryptocurrency supra-governmental position will continue to stabilise.
